A total of 152 key stretches, including the Ring Road and several flyovers — spanning over 330 km across the Capital — are set to undergo a major makeover, involving repair, reconstruction, and resurfacing, with the Centre approving Delhi government’s fund request of Rs 803 crore.

The Minister for Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved the funds under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) earlier this month and asked the Delhi government to accord administrative approval for the projects, said officials. CRIF is a scheme under MoRTH that provides funds to states and Union territories to develop and maintain key roads and infrastructure.

Public Welfare Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said, “Delhi is witnessing a new era of infrastructure development. Roads are the arteries of any modern city, and by strengthening these critical corridors, we are ensuring safety, speed, and sustainability for millions of daily commuters.”

“This initiative is not just about repairing roads, it is about creating world class urban infrastructure that meets the aspirations of every Delhiite,” he added.

Maintaining that the city is going to witness one of the most extensive road upgradation and infrastructure development initiatives in recent years, PWD officials said this “project will take the Capital a giant step closer to the vision of a Viksit Delhi”.

Officials said the project will look into strengthening, resurfacing and widening of roads, construction of new corridors, development of flyovers, as well as upgradation of key routes in Central, North, East, Northeast, Shahdara, and Northwest districts.

Some of the key stretches which will see repairs and upgrades are Kashmiri Gate ISBT to Wazirabad, Vikas Marg, ITO loop, Ferozshah road, and Nizamuddin to Kalkaji stretch. The Noida Link Road – a key stretch that connects Noida to Central and East Delhi – is also set to be widened.

Further, the PWD plans to construct three new flyovers at Rohtak Road (Military Road–Jhansi Road), Rajouri Garden-Tagore Garden stretch and on Road 63 and Gokulpuri stretch to decongest and improve connectivity in Outer, West and Northeast Delhi.

“The competent authority in this ministry has agreed to approve the work listed to an amount of Rs 803.39 crore to meet the cost of work debitable to the allocations of the Government of NCT of Delhi under the CRIF Act, 2000,” the letter issued by MoRTH to the Delhi Chief Secretary stated.

“The technical approval and financial sanction of the work shall be accorded by the executive agency concerned in the government and there shall not be any change in scope of work from those as per administrative approval…,” it added.

The executing agency has been asked to ensure that individual projects are technically approved and financially sanctioned within four months from the date of the work receiving administrative approval, failing which, the work shall be deemed to have been sanctioned, unless prior approval of the government is taken to extend the validity of the approval, the document stated.
