As event concludes,the Metro overflows

It was a rough ride back home from the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.

It was a rough ride back home from the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium. As spectators walked out of the spellbinding show, the Metro stations were choc-a-bloc with spectators and many of them were not allowed to enter the stations. This when the administration had requested people to leave their vehicles home and bank on public transport like the Metro and DTC buses.

Spectators walking out of Gate No. 6 and 9 were directed to the nearby Jangpura Metro station, but with the crowd inside the station getting out of control, the entry to this station was blocked. Some complained that there was a stampede-like situation inside the Jangpura station. The situation at JLN Metro Station was no different as the spectators exiting from the other gates were all directed there. DMRC officials said the stations were closed briefly to regulate the crowd,“a routine process during overcrowding”.

Siddhartha Roy,an advertising professional, said: “I was banking on public transport and had left my car home. But now I am stranded on the road. There are no buses or autos either.”
