‘Kejriwal ko Aashirwad’: Wife Sunita announces WhatsApp campaign, seeks support for Delhi CM

Sunita Kejriwal referred to her husband Arvind Kejriwal as ‘a true patriot’ and compared his situation to freedom fighters confronting oppression from the British.

Calling Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal “a true patriot” and likening his position to that of the nation’s freedom fighters confronting oppression by the British, his wife Sunita Friday launched the ‘Kejriwal ko Aashirwad’ campaign and sought public support for him.

In a video message — her third over the last week since the CM has been in Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody — she said, “Yesterday Arvind ji presented his side in the court… Whatever he said in front of the court required a lot of courage. He is a true patriot. This is exactly how our freedom fighters fought British tyranny… Arvind ji has challenged the most powerful, corrupt, and dictatorial forces of the country… You have called Arvind ji your brother, your son… will you not support your brother and your son in this fight?”

“I’m giving you a WhatsApp number: 8297324624; we are starting a campaign today, ‘Kejriwal ko Aashirwad’, you can send your messages of support, anything you want to tell him on this number… each one of your messages will reach him… I will deliver these to him in jail,” she added.

The AAP later released another number, 9700297002, for the purpose.

Reacting to the development, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri compared Sunita to former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi who replaced her husband, Lalu Prasad Yadav, on the post after he went to prison.

Sunita said she had received a flurry of messages in solidarity and support since Kejriwal was taken into ED custody and later arrested on March 21 in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. The ED alleged that Kejriwal was the “kingpin and key conspirator of the Delhi excise scam”.

“I also received calls from many people that they are fasting for Arvind ji. How much people love Arvind ji. Write all that and send it. If you have anything else to say, anything that comes to your mind, write it and send it… He will be very happy to read your messages,” she said.

“To send him a message, you do not need to belong to the Aam Aadmi Party; you may be from any party. All youth, women, elderly, children, rich, poor, everyone must write something to their brother,” she added.

Meanwhile, Puri, at the inauguration of a BJP election office, said Sunita was “perhaps preparing to hold the post like Rabri Devi in Bihar” adding that Kejriwal’s politics in the city was limited to “a short period of time.”

“After nine summons since November 2023, he was arrested on the 10th summons by the ED… in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal’s politics is now limited for a short period of time,” Puri said.
