Raid at MCI office
A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the office of Medical Council of India (MCI) on Thursday evening in an alleged corruption case. Official sources said several documents have been seized and team has zeroed in on a few MCI officials for financial irregularity. CBI spokesperson Harsh Bhal confirmed the raids. A case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against unknown officials and investigations are on,he added.

Fire in W Delhi factory
Fire broke out in a factory in West Delhi’s Peeragarhi in the early hours of Thursday. Fire department officials said the blaze was reported around 1.15 am from a factory manufacturing cardboard in Udyog Nagar. Nine fire tenders were pressed into action and the blaze was brought under control at around 5.30 am. No casualties were reported.

Hi-tech vehicles on roads
To enforce the Motor Vehicle Act more strictly,Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit flagged off 35 enforcement vehicles of the Transport department on Thursday. “These vehicles are part of a system to enforce the Motor Vehicle Act with reliable accuracy. The vehicles are fitted with GPS,wireless system and will be able to function as an eye and a strict enforcement unit on road,” Dikshit said.

Rs 74 crore for ISBT
The government on Thursday sanctioned funds worth Rs 74.16 crore to revive the Kashmere Gate inter-state bus terminus. The work under first phase will be completed by September,which includes civil work,sanitation,modern water supply system,fire-fighting,solar lighting and power management.

Man hangs self in prison
A 28-year-old man,depressed after being handed life term for the murder of his mother,hanged himself inside his prison cell in Rohini,Outer Delhi,on Thursday. Police identified the deceased as Vishwah Chaudhary. “The body has been sent for postmortem. Prima facie,it looks like a case of suicide,” a senior police officer said.

MCD official to pay fine
The Central Information Commission has asked an official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to pay Rs 25,000 as penalty for over a 100-day delay in providing information and then lying to save himself. The Commission was hearing an RTI petition filed by one Diwan Singh Tokas in March last year seeking records from MCD’s Factory Licensing department.

Garment traders held
Two garment merchants have been arrested for allegedly stealing bank drafts from courier companies and using them for taking delivery of goods fraudulently. Mohit Jain (26) and Mukesh Dhir (43) were arrested following the complaint by a cloth merchant,the police said.

Blasts: reward announced
The Delhi Police on Thursday announced Rs 3 lakh reward for a man from Karnataka who allegedly helped Indian Mujahideen terrorists by providing explosives to make bombs,which were later used to trigger blasts in the Capital two years ago.
