MCD Civic Centre to be inaugurated on Apr 22
The newly constructed Civic Centre building that will house the headquarters of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be unveiled on April 22 by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram. Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain said former deputy Prime Minister L K Advani,leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj,Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit and Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal will also be present at the event.

High Court on ragging
The Delhi High Court has held that educational institutions’ failure to check ragging would be considered as an act of negligence. The court made the remarks while dismissing a plea by two students of Kirorimal College against a last year order debarring them from appearing for the B Sc final examination for their alleged involvement in a ragging incident.

NH-10 to be upgraded
The Public Works Department,Delhi,has decided to upgrade 17-kilometre stretch of the National Highway 10 (from Punjabi Bagh to Tikri Border) which falls in the territory of Delhi,at a cost of Rs 84 crore. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit inaugurated the upgradation project on Monday.

Norms for health centres
The Delhi Cabinet on Monday approved public health standards for Primary Urban Health Centres (PUHC) in Delhi. For every 50,000 population one such unit will be identified,strengthened and upgraded to a PUHC. The Delhi State Health Mission was set up on August 14,2006. The mandate of the mission was to lay down benchmarks for the primary and secondary healthcare and addressing issue of multiplicity of agencies. As per this mandate,the city government has determined the public health standards.

Mayor election rescheduled
The municipal election for the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor that was to be held on April 28 has now been rescheduled to April 30. An announcement to this effect was made by the office of the municipal secretary which said the last date of filing nominations for the two posts will now be April 26 instead of April 23 as notified earlier.
