Nanda lawyer apologises to SC
Noted criminal lawyer R K Anand,held guilty of attempting to influence the course of justice in the infamous BMW hit-and-run case,has tendered his “sincere,unqualified and unconditional apology” to the Supreme Court. The advocate’s reply came on a showcause notice issued by the court asking for reasons why he should not be given more punishment. Anand pleaded before the court that his punishment should not be enhanced under Section 12 of Contempt of Court Act. The apex court had on July 29 last year upheld the conviction and stripped Anand of the status of senior advocate.

Rs 3.5 lakh looted
Ghaziabad: Two employees of Hydel Corporation in Ghaziabad were robbed of Rs 3.5 lakh by two motorcycle-borne robbers on Tuesday. S S Singhal,an assistant with the Hydel Corporation and his colleague Jai Prakash Tiwari were on their way to deposit the money in a bank. “A case has been registered at the Sahibabad police station,” said Awdesh K Vijaita,SP city,Ghaziabad.

Look-out notice for ‘godman’
Ghaziabad: The police issued a look-out notice against the self-proclaimed godman of Ghaziabad,Anoop Kumar Sahai — accused of abducting his 28-year-old cousin,Priyanka on February 15. “We suspect that he might leave the country. So,we have issued look-out notices against him. The notices have been sent to airport authorities in Delhi,Mumbai,Kolkata and Chennai,” Raghubir Lal,SSP (Ghaziabad),said.

Man found hanging
An unidentified man was found hanging from a tree in a park near Nirmana Dhin flyover in Vasant Vihar,South Delhi,on Tuesday morning. The police said they received a call about the incident at 7 am from a passerby. “We have found an identity card by the name of Vikas Kumar from his pocket,however,we are not sure whether it belongs to him,” the police said.

DU recruitment drive
The Delhi University on Tuesday called the third recruitment drive by its Central Placement Cell an “overwhelming success”. The drive was held on March 6,8 and 9,and 60 students were offered jobs by three companies. “The student turnout this time did not match the previous sessions where daily turnout was as high as 2,000. This time,the student turnout on first day was 200,second day was 600 and third day was 700,” said Seema M. Parihar,chairperson of the CPC in a press release.

Girl run over by train
An 18-year-old girl was run over by a train at Tilak Bridge around 2.30 pm on Tuesday. According to the police,the victim,identified as Saloni Bhalla,was talking on the phone while walking along the tracks. “She might have slipped and fallen on the tracks just as a train was approaching. She died on the spot,” a police officer said. Saloni was studying at a private institute.

Water supply to be hit
Water supply will be affected on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning in Moti Bagh,RK Puram,Sarojini Nagar,Nauroji Nagar,Kidwai Nagar,Embassy area,Diplomatic Enclave,SP Marg,IB Complex and adjoining areas due to work to be undertaken by Delhi Jal Board.
