President,PM attend Delhi Police function
The ‘At home’ function of the Delhi Police,held on Wednesday,was attended by President Pratibha Patil,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh,Vice President Hamid Ansari Home Minister P Chidambaram and L-G Tejendra Khanna. The function was organised on 63rd Raising Day of the Delhi Police. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit,all MPs of Delhi and all senior officers of the Delhi Police also attended.

Fire at film theatre
Noida: A major fire broke out in a Ghaziabad theatre playing the film My Name Is Khan. An LPG cylinder burst around 9 am on Wednesday leading to the fire,officials said. “The cylinder was kept in a storeroom at the multiplex Movie Place in Shahibabd. No one was injured,” a police officer said.

Two advocates penalised
Ghaziabad: Two advocates of a Ghaziabad court have been penalised by the Allahabad High Court in a contempt of court case. According to the order,the two advocates — Nahar Singh Yadav and Shailendra Sharma — insulted the court two years ago when Himanshu Bhatnagar was the Chief Judicial Magistrate. Yadav,who was the president of the Bar Association at the time,said:“I will challenge the order in the Supreme court.”

50 ill after eating food at wedding
Ghaziabad: Around 50 people fell ill after eating food at a wedding ceremony in Awwalpur village,Pilkhuwa. The guests complained of stomachache and nausea,and a few fell unconscious. They were rushed to hospitals in Bhojpur,Pilkhuwa and Faridnagar. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered.

Engineering student kills self
A 22-year-old engineering student allegedly committed suicide at a guest house in Central Delhi,the police said. Vimlesh Kumar,from Lucknow,was found hanging in room no 23 of Sapna Guest House in Paharganj around 10.30 pm on Tuesday by the police. No suicide note has been recovered. The body has been sent for postmortem at Lok Nayak Hospital.
