In protest,High Court Bar Association boycotts CJs court
New Delhi:The Delhi High Court Bar Association on Sunday protested the decision to enhance the pecuniary jurisdiction of the district courts from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 2 crore. The association resolved to observe Monday as a black day and decided to abstain from work. The association also asked its members to boycott the court of the Chief Justice. The Chief Justices Court,Court No. 1,shall be boycotted by the Bar till this decision is reviewed,as mark of protest against, an official communication from the association said. The statement was signed by associations secretary Mohit Mathur,among others.
Rs 20,000 grant to learn about environment
New Delhi:The Department of Environment is offering a grant of Rs 20,000 to the school principals who want to set up eco-clubs,or meetings to help their students learn about the environment. To date,more than 2,000 schools in the capital have have availed of the grant for programmes such as bird watching or gardening.
Anyone seeking the grant can fill up the form available on the departments website ad submit it by the end of July.
Man gets 7 years jail for molestation,murder bid
New Delhi:Observing that incidents of sexual harassment were increasing day by day,a Delhi court sentenced a 30-year-old man to seven years in jail for molesting a woman and trying to murder her when she resisted the act. Additional Sessions Judge Sanjeev Kumar sentenced Delhi resident Saligram,who had molested one of colleagues wife when he had found her alone in her house. He had stabbed her several times with a knife when she protested.
Court rejects bail of 3 for forcing abortion
New Delhi:Holding that unbearable pressure was put on a woman to abort her pregnancy following a matrimonial dispute,the Delhi High Court has rejected anticipatory bail pleas of Ashish Gupta (husband),Sushil Kumar (father-in-law) and their relative Sunita,the three accused in the case. The court also directed police to provide security to the woman,who is now living with her parents. It further asked police to trace a godman,whose assistance was sought by the accused to terminate the complainants pregnancy.
