Cop shoots self
A 40-year-old constable of the Ghaziabad Police shot himself on Tuesday after failing to get his salary for the last six months. Jitesh Kumar,a resident of Bulandshahr,was attached with the arms section of the police unit. Kumar had been transferred from Meerut to Ghaziabad six months ago. His salary certificate had not been sent to us from Meerut. We could not give him his salary before receiving clearance, a source said. Rahul Yadvendu,SP City,said the reason behind the step has not been ascertained.
Snatcher arrested
A police officer and the security guard of a bank nabbed a snatcher in Paharganj on Monday. Officials said one Sushila Kumari had gone to the State Bank of India to deposit
Rs 11,000. Afzal Khan,in his mid-twenties,snatched the money from Kumari. The security guard of the bank,identified as Krishan Lal,and assistant sub-inspector Chand Ram of Nabi Karim police station,chased and nabbed him, said DCP (Central),Jaspal Singh.
IPS officers ID stolen
The official identity card of an IPS officer on probation was reportedly stolen on Monday. Sonal Chandra told the police she was at the Select Citywalk mall in Saket when she realised her purse,containing Rs 1200 besides her ID card,was missing. The card had been issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Police have registered a case of theft.
