NHRC notices to govt,MCD

Taking suo moto cognizance of the recent building collapse in East Delhi,the National Human Rights Commission on Friday sought reports on the incident from the Delhi government and the MCD. Noting that the contents of the media report raise the issue of violation of human rights,the NHRC issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the MCD commissioner,seeking reports within four weeks. The NHRC also asked the Delhi government and the MCD to apprise it of the action to be taken against “erring public officials who are responsible for construction of illegal buildings”.

More time needed for probe: MCD

The Chief Vigilance Officer of the MCD,who was asked to conduct an internal inquiry into the building collapse,on Friday sought “at least a week” more to complete his investigation as it is a “very complex” issue. The CVO is reported to have said he does not want to complete the probe in a “haphazard manner”.

Seven flights diverted from IGI

General visibility at the IGI Airport fell to below 50 metres on Friday morning,delaying several flights and diverting seven flights to other domestic destinations. A total of 160 flights operated after low-visibility procedures had to be initiated for over seven hours from 4.30 am. While all morning flights were delayed by hours,seven flights had to be diverted to other airports like Jaipur,Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
