A delegation of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) met the Hindu College administration on Thursday against the suspension of students and fine of Rs 10,000 imposed on them for involvement in a democratic protest held to raise various demands related to the college’s annual festival.

The ABVP delegation met the college administration and demanded the withdrawal of suspension following which the administration assured that it will review all the suspension letters within 10 days and ensure its withdrawal for those involved in the peaceful protest. Meanwhile, no student will be pressured to pay the fine.

A statement by the ABVP said, “The administration ensured that no student will be restrained from appearing in exams. In this order, the college administration has also issued a notice directing the disciplinary committee to review the suspension cases on immediate basis”.

The ABVP believes that the students were protesting in a constitutional manner for a just cause related to issues and demands of the college, which is their democratic right. Imposing suspension and fine on such students is dictatorial and unconstitutional behaviour of the administration against the students, which is unfair, it said.

“In the present times, when stress, depression and various mental health issues are very common, and cases of suicides are increasing in educational institutions, suspending students and imposing a heavy fine shows the insensitivity of the college administration,” said Harsh Attri, state secretary, ABVP Delhi.
