The Delhi Police has questioned more than 700 rickshaw-pullers in an attempt to identify a man who had deposited a parcel containing the body of a woman with a transport company in Lahori Gate area of North Delhi.

The parcel was transported to Ajmer in Rajasthan 10 days ago by the suspect who identified himself as ‘B’. Police said they have recovered an old mat from the trunk,in which her body was stuffed. Though as many as 15 families from Delhi went to Ajmer to identify the body,no breakthrough was reported. Meanwhile,a post-mortem examination was conducted at a government hospital in Ajmer on Tuesday.

“A post-mortem examination has been conducted, and the cause of death has been determined as stabbing. Her face was deliberately burnt to avoid identification,” said an officer.

Police said they were trying to locate the rickshaw-puller,who ferried the suspect to Milap Transport Roadlines in the Lahori Gate. CCTV footage available with police showed a man getting down from a rickshaw with the trunk containing the body and filling up a form.

“We have questioned more than 700 rickshaw-pullers in the vicinity to identify the suspect, who couriered the trunk. We will hire a private agency to analyse the CCTV footage, which is blurred and grainy in composition,” the officer said.

Police said the woman, aged around 25 years, was tortured before being murdered. “From the make of the trunk and the mat,it seems that the suspect had rural connections.

The trunk is an old one,and her red ring did not bear any jeweller identification mark,” the officer said.
