A Team of 40 officers from the eight police stations in Zone 11 has been working for five days to trace a six-year-old boy who went missing from his building at Mahavir Nagar in Kandivali west, said Mahesh Patil,DCP (Zone 11). The police suspect kidnapping although his parents havent received any ransom call.
According to the police and father of the boy, identified as Karnit Anant Shah,he was playing inside the building complex when he went missing. On April 6,Karnit and his sister Yuti (10) had gone with their friends to play cricket. After he got stumped,Karnit got upset and went and sat away from his friends. After a few minutes,Yuti came home but Karnit did not return. After a few hours his worried mother went to look for him but could not find him. At 8.15 pm,I came home from work and also began looking from him in the area thinking he must have gone outside the building, said Karnits father.
After a couple of hours, his parents filed a missing persons complaint with the Kandivali police.
We suspect that a 20-year-old man named Sunny might have kidnapped him as he was also present inside the building when the children were playing. He does not stay in the complex but for the past 15 days he had been coming to the building to distribute sweets and cricket balls to the kids, who called him chocolate uncle. We did not know about this until our daughter and other kids told us after Karnits disappearance, said Shah,a stock broker.
Shah said the watchman doesnt stop anybody because the complex is huge and also houses a restaurant.
The police officers investigating the case said they are on a hunt for Sunny based on the sketch they have prepared after talking to the children and the watchman of the Pranik Society.
