Tamil Nadu: Condolences pour in for 2-year-old Sujith, whose body was recovered after almost 80 hours

Sujith had fallen into a 600-feet abandoned borewell on Friday evening.

A pall of gloom descended on Nadukattupatti village in Trichy district as NDRF personnel recovered the decomposed body of two-year-old Sujith Wilson, after a nearly 80-hour operation to rescue the toddler came to an end.

Sujith’s body, recovered a little after 3 am on Tuesday, was sent to the Manapparai Government Hospital for post mortem. He was buried at a cemetery in Fathima Pudur in Trichy around 8 am.

#RIPSujith and #SorrySujith began trending on Twitter as condolences poured in. Politicians, celebrities, and people across the country mourned the loss of the toddler.

Tweeting his condolences, DMK president M K Stalin said that Sujith had left everyone with a ‘permanent tragedy’. Stalin said the loss of the toddler’s life was personal not only for his parents but for the entire nation. “We will never forget you Sujith” (sic), he tweeted.

Film producer S R Prabhu said the government should come up with laws to punish those who leave borewells open.

Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin tweeted his condolences and said he hoped such accidents did not occur again.

Kollywood actor and comedian Vivekh said, ‘Sujith we have taken your body. We have fallen in grief now. Who will take us now?”

Kollywood actor Vishnu Vishal too tweeted his condolences.

Several people on Twitter apologized for having failed to save the toddler.

“The smallest coffins are the most heaviest ones. RIP #SujithWilson” (sic) tweeted one user.
