Workshop on fingerprints held for cops

A two-day workshop on identifying a person based on the finger-printing technique was held in Recruit Training Centre,Sector-26,Chandigarh on July 7 and 8. After a brief introduction on the history of finger print science and classification of various patterns was discussed. Experts from Haryana Police also delivered lectures on Finger Print Search Slip,Cord Slip,Jail Slip and specimen samples.

The workshop was attended by seven law instructors and 30 police officials of the rank of constable to inspector from various units of the Chandigarh Police. The newly-introduced L R Code System in finger prints,which is a very simple way of identifying a person based on presence or absence of whorl patterns on 10 fingers of hands,was also discussed. The experts taught the audience how to handle or lift finger prints from the scene of crime.
