Tarsem Singh, father of Khadoor Sahib MP and Waris Punjab De head Amritpal Singh, on Sunday announced a plan to form a political party and expressed an apprehension that the Aam Aadmi Party could soon replace Bhagwant Mann as chief minister.

“We have prayed at the Akal Takht Sahib for the formation of a new party, and we have received permission. Soon, we will consult scholars to design the party’s structure and decide a name. It will be a party for all, transcending religion and caste. Our focus will be on the issues facing Punjab, making it a regional party for everyone,” Tarsem Singh said.

The announcement coincided with the foundation day of Waris Punjab De. Two months ago Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, who won the Lok Sabha election from Faridkot as an independent candidate, announced a plan to float a party along with Amritpal Singh.

“Punjab is in a dire political situation. There is no regional party to look after the interests of Punjab. The parties operating from Delhi are acting on the will of their top leadership. We have seen how leaders like Captain Amarinder Singh were removed in no time from the post of chief minister. Now, it seems similar things are happening with Bhagwant Mann. All decisions are made in Delhi. This is why we have prayed today to form a new party,” said Tarsem Singh.

When asked about rumours that the AAP could change the chief minister, Tarsem Singh responded, “The order from Delhi will prevail. They will make any excuse, such as health issues, to remove Bhagwant Mann and appoint a new chief minister. Our political culture has degraded to the point that none of the 92 MLAs would speak against it. While it is true that Bhagwant Mann has made mistakes against his own people, the command should remain in the hands of our own leaders. It shouldn’t be that they can remove or appoint anyone at will. This is the reason we want to form a new party.”
