UT top cops spar over tea

The altercation took place in the presence of Inspector General of Police Pradeep Kumar Srivastava,Deputy Inspector General of Police Alok Kumar and senior police officers.

It happened after the Advisor to Administrator,K K Sharma,the chief guest,left the venue.

Eyewitnesses said Naunihal Singh got angry with Jagbir Singh,in-charge of organising the ceremony,for not taking care of the guests.

Naunihal Singh,who was sitting with the IGP for tea,got miffed with Jagbir Singh when no tea or refreshments were served. He walked up to Jagbir Singh and asked him to make arrangements to serve.

“The DSP then told Naunihal: Mere ton jo kuchh hunda see main kar ditta (I have done whatever I could do). Naunihal took exception to it and shouted at him saying that it was his duty and he was not doing any ehsaan (favour),” eyewitnesses said.

Naunihal Singh also told the DSP that if he could not do the work he could leave the premises and he would relieve him of his duties. He also informed the IGP of Jagbir’s behavior.

Jagbir too approached Srivastava saying that he did not do anything. Srivistava then brought the situation under control and asked the two not to press the matter further.

“I don’t know what triggered it. But everyone was sitting and they will tell you that I did not utter a word. It is our internal matter,” Jagbir said.

Finally,when the time came for the SSP to leave,the DSP was there to see him off.
