UT receives its first high security plate

Chandigarh has gotten its first High Security Registration Number Plate (HSRNP),with the facility being launched on Monday.

Chandigarh has gotten its first High Security Registration Number Plate (HSRNP),with the facility being launched today. Two vendors in the city will start accepting applications for affixing of the number plates.

As many as 125 applications for registration were received on the first day on which the number plate was launched. For old vehicles,these number plates have to be fixed till August 2013.

Interestingly,the first such number plate was affixed on the car of the wife of Registering and Licensing Officer Sanjeev Kohli for a number of the old series. There are 18 vendors approved by the Union government for the purpose.

Initially two have started operations in Chandigarh. Celex Technologies Private Limited would set up shop at Bus Stand,Sector 17.

The other is Utsav Safety System Private Limited that is operating from 182/65,Industrial Area,Phase I. A third vendor,Shimnat Utsth India Private Limited,is looking for an appropriate place and is likely to start operations from Sector 17. D D License Plates too is likely to set up their office in Chandigarh.

Celex Technology managing Director Sandeep Aggarwal informed that while they would start accepting applications from Tuesday,the number plates would take three to four days to get made.

He added that they would have enough capacity to cater to the high number of vehicles in the city.

Utsav Safety System is setting up office and the machinery would be in place by tomorrow. The residents who went today to give applications for the number plates had to return disappointed as no one was available.

Charanjit Ram,a resident of Sector 15,who went to the Industrial Area outlet rued that no system was in place. “There should be some representative available at the Registering and Licensing Authority who would be able to guide the people,” he said.

The vendors informed that soon they would be having their representatives at the RLA who would facilitate the vehicle owners.

The vendors have been given the option of fixing the price for the number plates.

Celex Technologies has fixed the price of number plates for two-wheelers at Rs 350 and Rs 600 for four-wheelers. Utsav Safety Systems has fixed Rs 280 as price for registration plates for motor cycles and mopeds,Rs 300 for scooters,Rs 330 for three-wheelers,Rs 560 for light motor vehicles and passenger cars,and Rs 600 for medium and heavy transport commercial vehicles.

SDM (South) Vinod Kavle said that the number plates would help to reduce the number of vehicle thefts. A national centralised database would be created.

An SMS service is being started wherein vehicle owners would be informed once their RCs and number plates are ready.
