A local court on Monday acquitted UT ex-chief engineer K K Jerath in yet another case of corruption in which he was facing trial. Jerath was accused in eight cases,out of which he stands acquitted in three cases now. With two complaints already withdrawn,three more cases of corruption are pending against him.
The court acquitted him in a case where he was accused of using government vehicle,which amounted to a loss of Rs 38,736 to the sate exchequer.
Earlier,on October 4,he was acquitted by the court of District and Sessions Judge S K Aggarwal,along with seven other persons in a corruption case,where he was accused of irregularities in allotting the contract for the supply of cable wires.
In March 2012 Jerath was acquitted in a corruption case where he was accused of using government vehicles and staff for personal use. He was acquitted by Additional District and Sessions Judge Preeti Sahni. He was accused of causing the exchequer a loss of Rs 26.84 lakh (as salaries of the employees) and Rs 8.81 lakh as petrol cost.
As told by my client he was falsely implicated by the contractor at the behest of a former top UT official. These were the false cases which were registered against him, said Terminder Singh,Jeraths counsel.
