Asserting that it was a fit case for a court-monitored investigation, he added that certain new facts have emerged which make the charge of gross impropriety and conflict of interest more damning. The Congress had earlier demanded a Supreme Court-monitored Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe in the matter following reports about the Modi-led Gujarat government's land deals with business associates of Anar Patel, the daughter of incumbent Chief Minister Anandiben Patel. However, the BJP accused the Opposition of levelling "false and baseless allegations to cover up its own corruption".
