Umesh of Government Model School,Maloya punched his way into semi-finals with a win over Sagar of St Xavier's in the U-14 category on the opening day of the 27th Chandigarh State Sub-Junior boys' Boxing Championship being played at SD Public School.

In another quarter-final bout,Pawan of United Club ended the challenge of Prince of SD Club,Sector 32 to move into the semi-final stage while Narinder of United Club booked his berth in the semis in the same category with a win over Vipin of Government Model School,Karsan.

In another quarter-final bout in the U-14 category, Amit of United Club scored an emphatic win over Rahul of GNK-30 while Varun of Government Model School,Dhanas ended the challenge of Vishal of Shishu Niketan Public School to storm into the semis. In the last quarter-final bout,Akashdeep of GNK-30 scored an easy win over Prince of United club to get an entry into the last four.

In the U-16 category,Saurabh of Government Model School,Sector 37 scored a win over Rahul of Government High School,Sector 46 to book his berth in the semi-finals while Deepak of United Club moved into the last four with an emphatic win over Vishal of Government Model School,Sector 32.

It was easy going for Manjeet of Government School,Karsan as he defeated Ankush of GNK-30 to enter the semis while Mansoor of GNK-30 also scored a win over Abhay of Shishu Niketan School,Sector 22.

In the U-12 category,Sampan of SS-40 ended the challenge of Novelpreet of SD Public School,Sector 32 in his quarter-final bout while Vikram of GNK-30 too moved into the semis with a win over Gaurav of SD Club,Sector 22.
