‘Transport Nagar’ to be set up in Kalka-Pinjore Urban Complex

Presently,there is no alternative for parking of trucks in the district. Either they are parked near Majri Chowk or in industrial area.

Sector 1 of Kalka-Pinjore Urban Complex is designated as a commercial area. “Earlier,we were thinking about establishing ‘Transport Nagar’ in Sector 1-A of Panchkula,but as it could lead to congestion in the city,we will plan it in Sector 1 of the upcoming urban complex,” said Kataria.

In Sector 1-A of Panchkula,which is also designated as commercial area,an Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) is coming up. But the project has been hanging in air for three years now.

A committee of the state government,headed by the then Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary,urban local bodies,had approved the project in August 2008. “But soon we will finalise the plan of the area in Sector 1-A,” said Kataria. A commercial area is also likely to be planned with the bus stand as the available land is about 70-80 acres.

Presently,there is no ISBT in the city. The existing bus stand in Sector 5 does not cater to hill stations like Kasauli and Shimla. Passengers either alight at Majri Chowk,Housing Board Chowk,near Mani Majra to catch buses for Shimla route. Meanwhile,buses to Punjab,Himachal Pradesh and J&K are a few as only Haryana Roadways is providing bus services from the existing bus stand. With the coming up of ISBT in Sector 1-A,residents do not have to go to Sector 43 of Chandigarh.
