Last ten years have seen a phenomenal change in the way we view television,reflects Dish TV’s Shailendra Goel

Each year,it’s been a value addition,to services,channels,programming,technology. Each year saw one wire less on the wall. “With each passing year,television experienced mini revolutions,in terms of viewing and reaching out,” observes Shailendra Goel,Deputy VP Sales,Dish TV,as he dishes out the brands new look and offer. “The competition is on,and we’re now offering set top box free offer on buying content of Rs 1990. This pack is customized to offer best in entertainment in all genres such as general entertainment in regional languages,sports,business,news,movies and break free cinema,” he talks of affordability being high on their priority list,“along with acceptability and adaptability,” he adds. While the offer is valid till January 15,Shailendra takes time out to talk about the decade gone by. “People have become demanding,and this demand cannot be fulfilled by cable operators. So,the next few years will see a rise in DTH services,new technology and services especially value-added ones.” With an eye on a wireless world,Shailendra doesn’t rule out internet TV. Although major companies and government has backed it,he feels it will take time before it penetrates deep into the Indian territory. “But yes,there will be an increase in LCD and plasma televisions and more of interactive TV,” Goel feels TV needs to improve on its programming though.

The recent phenomenon,which Shailendra is personally optimistic of is the TV premiere of films. “Courtesy the multiplex-producer strike,many filmmakers approached us to premiere their films on television. This is soon going to be a reality,for the viewer not only wants hassle-free viewing but a more private and personal one.” This further translates into an increase in home theatre systems. Finally,what about the plus services,pause and rewind? “We have the technology,but not the market. The moment it’s there,we’re in.”
