Come summer time and the theatre scene in the city takes a nosedive. Infusing some activity,however,is the Chandigarh Institute of Performing Arts (CIPA) which is set to present the Hindi play Prajit Nayak. Written by Dhanjanyaya Bairagi and directed by Shyam Juneja,it’s a two-actor play with Shyam Juneja and Tamana Bhasin in the lead roles. The story depicts the lives of two characters,Purush and Satree. Purush is a political leader who has been defeated in elections. His friend Devtosh Chakarvarti,in order to save him from the wrath of the people,sets him up in the house of his female friend. During their stay together,Purush narrates how he came into politics,with his wife Abhaya (played by Tamana Bhasin) pushing him into politics to fulfil her own ambitions and aspirations. Satree too is emotionally fragile,having been left in the lurch by her lover. Living together Purush and Satree develop an emotional bond. The final act shows,Devtosh calling up to say that in the recounting Purush has been elected and his supporters are coming to take him back. Though Purush is happy that he has been re-elected,he is devastated to leave Satree. Satree tells Devtosh that Purush has not won,but he is a defeated person. Sad,disheartened and in a gloomy mood,leaves. He is Prajit Nayak.

The play will be staged on June 18 at Tagore Theatre at 7 pm. Entry is free
