According to Jovovich,her character,Milady De Winter,is one of the modern female characters in literature. “She is an incredibly smart woman— single and fiercely independent,” says Jovovich,adding how much she personally relates to the character. “For me,one of the most interesting elements about Milady de Winter is that she’s an unbelievably modern woman from the 17th-century. Imagine,how hard it is for a woman to get a leg-up today in the corporate world,or in any field. De Winter was navigating a man’s world at a time when women were dependent on their fathers,sons or the husband.”

Along with her husband,who has also directed her in the Resident Evil series,Jovovich wants to make fun movies,unlike films that emotionally drain the actors. “Recently,I made a movie called Stone,a psychological drama, with Robert De Niro,and it was very emotionally demanding. I would come back to my hotel room after work and cry. I couldn’t get the character out of my head,” she says.

As for her latest,Jovovich says it’s a never-seen-before version of the original,and showcases the new generation of “the three muskeeters”,while it borrows the spirit of the book and its theme. The film also stars Logan Lerman,Ray Stevenson,Gabriella Wilde,Freddie Fox with Orlando Bloom and Christoph Waltz.
