Symposium held to help teachers recognise children with learning disabilities

The symposium was organised by the Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped Children - PRAYAAS

With an aim to sensitise primary teachers of government schools in Chandigarh and help them identify children with learning disabilities,a symposium on Early Identification,Assessment and Intervention of Children with Learning Disabilities was organised by the Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped Children (RCHC)- PRAYAAS,a project of the Indian Council for Child Welfare,UT Chandigarh on August 29 and 30 at PRAYAAS Building.

Dr RK Gupta,Director RCHC-PRAYAAS gave an overview of the activities being run by PRAYAAS like speech therapy,physiotherapy,occupational therapy and clinical psychology.

He emphasised that a child who is otherwise intelligent,but does not meet expectations of parents and teachers in academics,has been the subject of a lot of research. Dr BNS Walia,former Director PGIMER,also participated in the symposium attended by over 60 government school teachers.
