Four people were injured during a clash between two groups at DAV College,Sector 10,today. Chetan Munjal,a student of BA Ist year of the College and supporter of Students of Panjab University (SOPU) was sitting at the help desk along with other SOPU supporters. He was attacked when he was coming out of the College.
When I was coming out,Guri Brar,Jassa Singh and Amber Singh and other members of Panjab University Students Union (PUSU) attacked me with sharp weapons, he said. The police were informed Before fleeing, the PUSU activists also smashed the window panes of a jeep, reportedly belonging to SOPU supporters. Munjal had to be taken to the Sector 16-based General Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH-16) for treatment as he suffered deep wounds in the hand. Fifteen stitches were required.
As the incident took place outside the college,it is not known who all were involved. I have already deputed people to verify who those involved in the attack were and this will be clear by Wednesday. The authorities will take strict action if any college student is found to be a part of this violent incident. This chaos is the outcome of the delay in admission forms by almost one month, leading all the student parties to pitch in for political mileage, said DAV College Principal B C Josan.
Meanwhile a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC was registered at the Sector 3 police station against Guri Brar,Jassa Singh,Ambar Singh and unknown people. Later, activists of the two students organisations clashed at Sector 9 too, where a gunshot was fired.
The splinters hit three passers-by. While Lakhwinder Singh and Sarabjit Singh were passing by on a motorcycle,Umar Aslam was working at a nearby tea stall. They too were rushed to GMSH,Sector 16.
The police are investigating the matter. It is not clear who fired the shot and the identity of the students who were involved here, said Sector 3 police station SHO Inspector Mahavir Singh.
