Stroke: Experts discuss patient management

On the second day of the Indo-US Program on Comprehensive Stroke Center Training,experts said that stroke centres can make a big difference in stroke management.

On the second day of the Indo-US Program on Comprehensive Stroke Center Training,experts said that stroke centres can make a big difference in stroke management. “If stroke patients are to be managed professionally,we need to have stroke centres,” said Dr Aneesh Singhal,Associate Professor of Neurology,Harvard Medical School.

“The institution of these stroke units in the developed nations was associated with a decrease in mortality and improved outcomes of survivors of this disabling disease,” he said. “These units are not too expensive to set up but require dedicated staff,” he said.

On Friday,the programme covered the practical aspects in management of acute stroke and the importance of Comprehensive Stroke Programs and Stroke Units.
