It was time for the Punjabi film fraternity to be awarded. Dressed in their best,the film stars headed to Indradhanush Auditorium in Panchkulas Sector 5,for the First Annual Fairglow PTC Punjabi Film Awards 2011.
While Divya Dutta and Gurpreet Ghuggi entertained the audience as anchors,those seated included Kailash Kher,Om Puri,Prem Chopra,Gurdas Maan,Guddu Dhanoa,Preeti Sapru,Raza Muraad,Satish Kaul,Manmohan Singh,Jazzy B,Master Saleem,Pammi Bai,Amrinder Gill,Gippy Grewal,Jasbir Jassi,Neeru Bajwa,Puneet Issar,Rakesh Bedi,Rama Vij,Girija Shankar,Sudhanshu Pandey and Akriti Kakkar.
Representing the biggies of Bollywood,meanwhile,were Akshay Kumar and Anushka Sharma,who made a brief appearance to promote their forthcoming film Patiala House. After an impromptu dance performance on the stage,Kumar interacted with the crowd for a bit. My father is from Amritsar and we belong to Punjab. Its always great to be home, he gushed.
While the evening saw impressive and power-packed performances by Gurdas Mann,Harbhajan Maan,Jimmy Sheirgill,Neha Dhupia and Hard Kaur,girls of BBKDAV College,Amritsar,had everyone speechless with their folk dance.
The awards did not come as a surprise the Best Film went to Mel Kara De Rabba and Jimmy Sheirgill bagged the Best Actor award for the same. Divya Dutta was declared the best female actor,for her role in Sukhmani while Manjit Mann took home the Best Director award for the film. Shreya Ghosal and Kailash Kher received the Best Female and Male Playback singer awards.
Among the fastest growing language cinema in the country today,the Punjabi film industry has achieved a predominant position in the field of Indian cinema. Through these awards,PTC Punjabi salutes and showcases the immense talent and initiative undertaken by the Punjabi film industry.
