When 22-year-old Nina Sarkar got a call from her casting agent for Savin Tuscano’s Vroom which releases on May 14,the model knew it was a movie she wouldn’t want to miss. “We have all grown up watching the adventures of Herbie, the car with a heart of gold. I have always wanted to be a part of something similar. This movie was just the thing,” she says.

Star Gold’s first production venture under the banner of Star Box Office,Vroom,Adventures of Smarty,The Magical Car,is a children’s film also starring Gaurav Bajaj,Daisy Irani and Naveen Prabhakar. “I’m playing Gaurav’s love interest,Pooja, the girl next door,” says Sarkar, who, interestingly, had earlier refused an offer from Yashraj Films. “I was 18 and terrified of getting into the industry,” she confesses.

Instead, while pursuing her Mass Communication in Bangalore,Sarkar opted to walk the ramp, doing shows in Lakme Fashion Week in 2009 and working on print campaigns for Sony,Spice,Kingfisher,World Gold Council,Dove,Castrol,Westside and Tropicana. “It’s not that the modeling world doesn’t have horror stories. I stepped in cautiously, but was pleasantly surprised by the pretty, warm and fun loving people. Maybe I was lucky,” she shrugs. She had also starred in music videos like Leja Leja by Ustaad Sultan Khan and Shreya Ghoshal for T-series.

The film, she says,is close to her heart for she loves cars and kids. “I adore the movie Herbie Goes Bananas, and love children. In fact,I was about to pursue child psychology when films happened. Maybe later in life,I might take it up.” In the meantime, she is looking at other projects too. “It will be one thing at a time,” she says.
