SHO slapped, manhandled by protesters

Saving himself from the protesters trying to assault him, Uday Pal ran through the hospital from the emergency entrance and managed to escape the protesters. The SHO’s vehicle was also vandalised by the mob.

The protesters, all residents of Dhanas and CPI activists were protesting against the demolition drive which was scheduled for June 30. The protesters were dispersed from outside the DC office and many injured protesters and policemen were taken to GMSH-16 for administering first aid.

SHO Inspector Uday Pal went to the hospital for checking the condition of the injured to register a case against the protesters for assaulting the police. However, as soon as he reached and stepped out from his vehicle, a woman protester slapped him and other started thrashing him. Next, a window pane of his vehicle was broken and the driver sped away with the vehicle leaving the inspector with the mob.

The SHO ran inside the hospital and the mob followed him beating him with slippers and throwing stones at him. The SHO called for his vehicle at the second gate opposite the gynaecological department OPD.

As he was trying to enter his vehicle, one of the protesters grabbed his shirt and started thrashing him. The SHO blew a punch at him and the man fell. Uday Pal sat into the vehicle and escaped.

Till this time, the entire police force was called to handle a mob of not more than 30 people. Superintendent of Police (SP) city, Parvinder Singh said, “We will take an action against the men who have assaulted the SHO.
