Mandira Bedis association with cricket has been on for a while now. And when it was time to get back to work after five months of maternity leave,a project with a virtual cricket championship was the perfect deal. This is the ideal and perfect time both for me and for the game. With Champions League T20 finals due next month, its time for cricket enthusiasts to gear up, says an excited Bedi,as she trots in at Panjab Universitys Students Centre to teach youngsters how to play air cricket for Nokia Ke Asli Champions.
She learnt the game with little effort. Cricket is a religion in our country and comes naturally to us, says Bedi, tucking in on her blue tee, smoothening her black track pants and moving her silver grey shoes as if to take a shot.
In the city for a blink-and-miss appearance, after a campaign at Kolkata,Bedi moves to show her batting, bowling and fielding skills and talks about whats keeping her occupied her three-month-old baby boy,Vir. Its now that I realise how difficult working mothers have it. The moment I am home,I want to devote all my time to him, she smiles and looks around,as students flood in to catch a glimpse of her. The PU campus is huge. I went to St Xaviers in Mumbai and in comparison, this is more spacious, open and green, she adds.
Getting back to the agenda on hand, she reveals the prize for the winning entries they get to watch the Champions League T20 finals (on October 9 in Chennai) with actor Priyanka Chopra. As for Bedi, she would hopefully be there as well. But with my family, she says.
