Actor Chetan Pandit wants to steer clear of stereotypes
The character of Chandraprakash,in Prakash Jhas Raajneeti, represents one of those rare politicians,an idealist, who takes his job seriously and wants his ideas to achieve fruition. The character is based on the life of the stalwart politician Jayaprakash Narayan. He is the good guy,and ironically, the most unpopular one, says actor Chetan Pandit, who plays the character in the movie. He is not very popular among other politicians or the people but is well aware of the countrys needs, says Pandit.
In spite of his penchant for portraying politicians in films,Pandit prefers to steer of politics. I am an artist first, he says. What scares him is the idea of getting stereotyped in Bollywood. I had been playing elderly characters in movies and advrtisements, and carrying them off well. People started thinking I am an aged guy, he says, citing the elderly roles he played in movies like Bas Ek Pal,Risk,A Wednesday,Jail,Gangajal and Apaharan.
Currently working in an Ekta Kapoor serial on Star Plus,Tujh Sang Preet Lagayi Sajna,Pandit chooses his roles with care. My characters have always been different from a sensitive Chief Minister to a manipulative sharp politician to a smooth operator,a corrupt police inspector and then again,a good one. A trained singer, writer, composer and theatre artist,Pandit will be returning to theatre after nine years in a play directed by Nadira Babbar. Weve been busy rehearsing for that, he signs off.
