Reliving the Melodies

It’s yesterday once more in the city on Friday evening.

It’s yesterday once more in the city on Friday evening. The Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi’s annual ode to the legendary singers is back and this year, the programme called ‘Yaadon Ki Kasak’ is dedicated to the memory of the doyens who passed away in 2011 — Jagjit Singh,Bhupen Hazarika,Shammi Kapoor and Dev Anand. “We will take the audience on a musical journey to make them relive memories and melodies,’’ says Kamal Tewari,Chairperson of the Akademi,an accomplished musician himself. He adds that each year, the programme gives singers from the region a platform to showcase their talent. City-based singer Bhupinder Singh, who has been participating in the programme for many years now, says singing songs immortalised by the likes of KL Saighal,Mohd Rafi and Kishore Kumar, for an audience that relates to their music,is an unforgettable experience. “We started this programme with senior citiziens in mind since they cannot connect to today’s music. Over the years,a wider audience has joined us,” says Tewari.

Yaadon Ki Kasak is scheduled for December 16 at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18,6:30 pm
