Reduce liquour vends
The Chandigarh Administration is reported to have received Rs 127 crore for the auction of 217 liquor vends in the current financial year, beginning May 1. Such a large number of vends for a population of only 11 lakh is obviously too large. It appears that the Administration is ignorant of the instruction contained in Directive Principles of our Constitution. According to Directive Principles (Article 47) the state shall endeavour to bring about prohibition of the consumption except for medicinal purposes of intoxicating drinks and of drugs which are injurious to health. Talking this into consideration, the administration should try to reduce the number of vends in a phased manner.

Need for cheap accommodation
As a tourist visiting the city for the first time,I was shocked to find the prices of guesthouses and hotels much higher than what mainstream guide books suggested the prices were above the reach of many who travel on a shoe-string budget within India. The result: Many architectural students and tourists will shorten their stay or avoid visiting Chandigarh unless affordable accommodation is offered. I hope that this wonderful city of architectural genius will be able to maintain an affordable stay for visitors, who are important to bring in revenue.

Follow Bihar
The Administrator of Chandigarh, along with Chief Ministers of Punjab and Haryana, are hereby urged upon to toe the line as adopted by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in regard to making it mandatory for all categories of government officials to submit details of their movable/immovable assets as well as liabilities/dues towards public authorities including those of their spouse and dependents. The same should be uploaded on concerned department websites for wider public information and scrutiny. It is pertinent that after Kumar took a tough stand issuing a stern warning that those who failed to submit the requisite information within stipulated the time period would not receive their salary everyone fell in line and did the same expeditiously. If the citizens of India have got the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression under the Constitution,it also includes right to know about such details of public functionaries and servants. It is hoped that the Bihar model would be replicated in the region as a initiative towards promising clean administration and ensuring probity in public life.

Poor policing at night
Through information sought under Right to Information (RTI) Act,I have come to know that only 67 vehicles were fined for non-functional headlights, backlights and indicators in the last 1 one (April 1m,2010 to March 31,2011). This shows poor policing at night the time when one is most susceptible to accidents. Also, only 84 vehicles were fined for missing rearview mirrors and only 77 fined for vehicles having goods hanging outside during this period. This is sheer negligence.

Stop entry of school buses on C-roads
Time and again, people have faced a lot of trouble because of school buses entering C roads. These roads in the sectors mostly have cars parked on both sides, leaving little space for buses to pass. Such chaos can be seen almost daily during afternoon hours,as schools get over and office-goers come home for lunch. Residents have to change their parking spots to make way for the buses. Keeping public interest in view, entry of school buses should be prohibited inside sectors on C roads. Parents or guardians can pick up their children from the bus stand or any fixed point on the main road. this would definitely relieve the residents from this daily problem.
