Red carpet roll call

After a decade of criticism,Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan has nailed the Cannes red carpet look this year.

After a decade of criticism,Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan has nailed the Cannes red carpet look this year. Her recent appearance at the 66th edition of Festival de Cannes was in an ivory embroidered gown by the Bachchan family’s favourite designer duo — Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. For a photoshoot, the actor wore a sharp black jacket with lace sleeves with black trousers, which showed off her recently-reclaimed figure. She offset the ensemble with blood red lips.

Black and red made up for the colour palette of the India contingent on Day 6 of the festival,as jury member Vidya Balan opted for a red chiffon sari that was tough to differentiate from the red carpet she walked on. Paired with pearls and a hairdo straight out of the ’60s,it made her look drab and old. The other Indian jury member,Nandita Das,was finally spotted too. In her handloom sari,Das looked like Balan’s long-lost sister.

If Mallika Sherawat left behind her trademark sartorial style to dress in a beautiful pink-and-black net gown this year,Sherlyn Chopra made up for it by appearing in a black sheer outfit to promote her film Kamasutra 3D. One might argue that Gwyneth Paltrow proved sheer as the latest red carpet trend. Chopra, however, lacked Paltrow’s elegance and grace to pull it off.
