The face of many a successful campaign and veterans of the ramp,supermodels Krishna Somani and Amanpreet Wahi are much sought after names in the fashion circuit. But what most don’t know is that off the ramp,the ladies are also best buddies. No wonder when we bump into them at Hotel Mountview the two (they are here to walk for the NIIFT Mohali show on Sunday) were merrily tucking into lunch together in a quiet corner. “We are inseparable when we get talking,” laughs Amanpreet as we notice the newly-wed is still wearing her wedding chura! “I am quite a traditional sort when it comes to rituals,” smiles Wahi,a former Gladrags winner who wed entrepreneur Raghav Narula in February this year. And while most of us thought supermodels are career conscious workaholics who can’t do without their daily dose of glamour,then here’s a lesser heard story. “I have been married for four years now,” shares Somani who has been balancing home and work so well that she “inspired” her best friend to finally tie the knot. “Looking at Krishna and seeing her homemaker skills actually got me convinced I could do the same,” Wahi tells us who feels marriage was the next best thing after a string of personal achievements. “I feel so complete now. The public at large has a very sorry image of models – that we drink and do drugs and can never have a family life. It’s all very untrue,” the two chorus their version.

Married to a chartered accountant,Somani admits it not easy at first striking a balance but spouse support goes a long way in balancing work and home. “I have been equally active at work since I got married,” the leggy model who towers over six feet tells us as best friend Amanpreet adds,“I am keen on getting back on the circuit but there’s no mad rush.” Interestingly,while Bollywood hasn’t been too kind to leading ladies once they have tied the knot,the modeling industry,tell the supermodels,has no such qualms. “As long as you are in shape and committed to work professionally,there’s no stopping you,” pitches in Amanpreet. And going by what we saw this Saturday,the two are very much in the top league,despite the Mrs tag! Way to go!
