Apart from vying for wall space,students are making use of alternative space books and clothes
With Panjab University and colleges set to hold students election soon,posters and stickers of parties in the fray are splashed across the varsity and colleges.
There has always been a tug-of-war among parties for wall space to stick posters,hence this time,students made use of all other alternative space like books and even clothes.
Prospective candidates and their supporters are also not leaving any stone unturned to propagate their views and woo freshers. The authorities on their part have taken all measures to strengthen security.
Naina,prospective candidate for the post of vice-president from Students Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU) at DAV College,Sector 10,says,We are interacting with students and listening to their problems. These would form part of our election agenda. We would ensure that the problems are taken care of after we get elected.
A member of Panjab University Students Union (PUSU) from the same college says that new students face many problem related to admission and hostel accommodation. The members of his party are addressing their grievance and meeting students in every class to help them.
Before the elections,we also do a bit of social work like cleaning the campus and collecting relief fund for people of Leh. But our election campaign is confined to problems of students such as food in the hostel mess,sitting arrangement in the canteen etc, said Prabhjot Singh Dimpy,president of SOPU at SD College,Sector 32.
At Sri Guru Gobind Singh College,Sector 26,the parties aim to campaign in a non-violent manner. President of Chandigarh Students Union,Mandeep Singh Sandhu,says problems like lack of parking space on the campus,heavy fines for various violations would be part of their agenda for the elections.
