Congress candidate from Bholath,Sukhpal Singh Khaira has launched his poll campaign through a phone calls.

Jalandhar: Congress candidate from Bholath,Sukhpal Singh Khaira has launched his poll campaign through a phone calls. Many people in the constituency confirmed having received phone calls in which they hear a recorded message in Khaira voice. In the message,Khaira greets the listeners and then goes on to introduce himself. He then gives the details about his programmes and that of the senior party leaders. In today’s recorded message he informed about Sonia Gandhi’s rally to Kapurthala on Thursday. He also appeals people to vote for Congress.

Cong appoints 5 acting presidents

Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday appointed acting presidents for five districts. They include Gurmeet Pahra for Gurdaspur,Kanwaljit Singh Lally for Jalandhar Rural,Kuldeep Kumar Nanda for Hoshiarpur,Major Singh Bhaini for Ludhiana Rural and Davinder Singh Darshi for Pathankot. Besides,the party has appointed Campaign Committees for various districts.

SAD expels rebels

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday dismissed all those leaders from the primary membership of the party who are contesting as Independents against the party candidates. In a statement party spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said that primary membership of Balwinder Singh Saifdipur from Ghanour,Rajinder Kala MC from Sanour,Youth leader Satbir Singh Khatra from Patiala rural,Manpreet Kaur Dolly from Derabassi,Daljit Singh Grewal Councillor from Ludhiana East,Jarnail Singh KotMehtab from Baba Bakala,Davinder Singh Lali Dhala from Tarnatarn and Bhola Singh Kamalpur from Dirba has been cancelled. He said that Sukhbir has also sacked Ajit Singh Kutba,Chairman Market Committee Mahal Kalan for opposing party candidate in Mahal Kalan segment.

PPP candidate to support SAD

Amritsar: In a setback to People’s Party of Punjab (PPP),its nominee from Amritsar South,Jasbir Singh Sham on Wednesday declared to support SAD candidate from the constituency Inderbir Singh Bolaria. Sham claimed that he was left to fend for himself in the polls and there was no support from PPP,so he decided to support SAD candidate. Sham remained associated with SAD earlier also.

EC: 4,13,144 new voters

Chandigarh: Special Chief Electoral Officer,Usha R Sharma on Wednesday said that 4,13,144 new voters,(2,73,434 male and 1,39,710 female) between the age group of 18-19 years,would exercise their franchise for the first time. Sharma said that in total 1,76,83,582 voters would cast their votes in coming polls out of which 93,22,555 are male and 83,61,027 are female. She said that out of the total 117 assembly segments of state the number of female voters has surpassed that of males in only Bholath assembly segment where there are 59,321 female voters compared to 59,020 males. The officer also revealed that Gill assembly segment of Ludhiana is having highest number of voters wiz 1,94,331 whereas Amloh Assembly segment of district Fatehgarh Sahib has lowest number of voters wiz 1,13,952.
