Jagdev Singh Kamalu, Jagtar Singh Jagga, Pirmal Singh Khalsa, Baldev Singh and Kanwar Sandhu were among the original group of MLAs who had sided with Khaira when he had raised the banner of revolt against AAP.
Sukhpal Singh Khaira was also appointed the leader of opposition (LoP) by AAP, but was removed unceremoniously from this post in July last year after which he floated PEP. He resigned from AAP in January this year and as MLA Bholath in April, before filing his nomination papers.
Prof Singh was named by AAP as its candidate from Faridkot in its first list that was released nearly six months back. A retired Professor of English, he had won last time by a margin of 1.72 lakh votes against SAD’s Paramjeet Kaur Gulshan in his maiden attempt.
Khaira also received lot of criticism on social about his comments with people saying that he should not make accusations about the Army and security forces on a day when the entire nation is mourning.
