Katha Manchan is a theatre festival that counts on the audience
If you love theatre, show it. By supporting it. Your presence and a little financial contribution can go a long way in encouraging young theatre people to stage their creativity and promote new talent and ideas. This was the feeling with which Mask Theatre began the theatre festival Katha Manchan a year back and its been a fulfilling experience for the enthusiastic team of Vijay,Ravi and Munna. The adaptation of short stories for stage, believed Vijay, would present a fresh challenge to theatre actors, directors and give the audience a chance to watch something new. Many chose to stage the stories without many changes, lets see whats the format this year, smiles Vijay,as the team gears up for the second festival which starts from February 11.
Theatre director Sahib Singh who will also stage a story here feels contributions by the audience is a great way to get people directly involved in the process of staging a play and appreciating the effort. Its an age-old tradition in rural areas and continues to date. I ran a series,a play a month for a year, some years back, without any sponsors and with just the backing of the audience and it worked well, says Sahib, adding that such a practice will promote quality and serious work. Even if the cost of the auditorium is taken care of,a major burden is off our head, adds Sahib. So the last line of the festival is,lets see if theatre is possible with the help of people.
Watch the shows at Punjab Kala Bhavan,Sector 16,6.30 pm onwards.
