Phase-1 cow hospital lands in fresh trouble: GMADA asks district magistrate to clear encroachment
Citing the possibility of law-and-order issues, GMADA has requested deployment of one Duty Magistrate, along with 30 male and 10 female police officials during the operation.

The unauthorised cow hospital being run by Gau Grass Sewa Samiti in Phase-1 (Sector 55), Mohali, is facing a fresh trouble. The Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) has written a new letter to the District Magistrate, directing that the illegal encroachment on the site be cleared.
According to GMADA’s communication, the Samiti has illegally occupied land in Sector 55. The authority reminded that it had earlier written several times to the district administration, asking for the encroachment to be removed with the help of police force. However, due to unavailability of police personnel, the action was stalled.
Now, GMADA has fixed 11 am on August 28 as the deadline for the demolition drive. Citing the possibility of law-and-order issues, GMADA has requested deployment of one Duty Magistrate, along with 30 male and 10 female police officials during the operation.
The legal status of the cow hospital had already come under question after a tragic incident on August 18, when Amandeep Kaur, a resident of Kharar, lost her life while feeding fodder. Her scarf got entangled in the belt of a fodder-cutting machine.
Following the incident, advocate Jasbir Singh sought information under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, asking under whose approval the hospital was operating. GMADA, in its reply, stated that no permission had ever been granted to the Samiti to run a cow hospital at the site.
With the latest letter, GMADA has made it clear that the unauthorised occupation will be removed and the land reclaimed. This move could prove to be the biggest setback so far for the Phase-1 cow hospital.
