Pair Up

When Sai Deodhar and Shakti Anand met nearly a decade ago,it was in a professional set-up. After auditions, the two were chosen to play the roles of air force pilots for Saara Akaash,a TV show on the lives and dreams of pilots. The show’s success was credited to the content as much as to the pairing of the two actors who played the lead characters. The on-screen popularity transformed into off-screen romance and they ended up tying the knot while the show was still on air.

Nach Baliye in 2006 is the only show that the two have since done together — the two continued to work individually on the small screen. “We were happy doing the shows we believed in,” says Deodhar . But while the actor was pregnant (they now have a daughter),she and her husband decided that it was time to once again work together.

This time, however, the two wanted to start their own production house and make shows they believe in. “We were keen on venturing into production and we found a story that we wanted to tell,” says Anand, who along with Deodhar, set up Thoughtrain Entertainment.

Titled Khamoshiyan, their first show will go on air in the next one month on Star Plus, the channel that aired Saara Aakash. “The relationship between a mother and her daughter forms the crux of the story. The other relationships take the story forward. It is a story very close to my heart,” says Deodhar, who thought of the idea while she was pregnant.

Mohit Sehgal, who essayed the role of Samrat in Miley Jab Hum Tum,has been signed on as the lead actor. The duo refuses to share more details of the cast or the story.

While the idea germinated a year ago,the setting up of the production house has been a time-consuming challenge. “It is a lot of work. We have to look into every little detail and be there at all times to solve everyone’s problems,” confirms Anand. The two were recently in London to shoot the first few episodes of the show. “Our protagonist is from London,so the show begins there and will eventually move to India,” says Deodhar.

Will the show see the popular couple back on screen with their home production? Not yet, they say. “Never say never,” says Deodhar with a smile, adding,“Right now,we have not shot for it,but if the show demands the two of us to appear, then why not?”
