Reiterating that preparation for the Commonwealth Games 2010 is due on course,Union Sports Minister MS Gill said,”More than 15,000 people,including 11,000 players and 4,000 managers and coaches,will be in New Delhi for Commonwealth Games,so every arrangement that is being made is going on smoothly.” It is for the first time that India will be hosting the prestigious event like Commonwealth Games.

Talking further on Fennel-Kalmadi row,he said,”I had talked to both Kalmadi and Fennell and there is no problem or disagreement between them.” Gill insisted that Commonwealth Games Federation chief Michael Fennell have no problem with the CWG Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi.

He further added,”If we want to win medals in prestigious tournaments we have to focus on schools and colleges. In all our school and university sports lie in the B category where funding is the main problem. I am trying my best to change this system.”

Gill inaugurates shooting range
In a move,perhaps inspired by Abhinav Bindra’s performance at the Beijing Olympics,Panjab University’s plans to open an indoor shooting range became a reality when MS Gill,Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports,laid the foundation stone on Friday. This move will provide a platform for budding university shooters. Speaking on the occasion,Gill laid emphasis on producing sportspersons at national and international level. Prof. RC Sobti,vice-chancellor,PU,highlighted the achievements of the university in the field of sports.
