Mohali MLA inaugurates Rs 1.68-crore redeveloped pond at Sohana

Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh on Thursday inaugurated the newly renovated pond at Sohana, redeveloped by the Municipal Corporation (MC) at a cost of Rs 1.68 crore, and also laid the foundation stone of a Rs 40-lakh dharamshala in Maingiana Patti. Municipal Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh was present on the occasion.

Speaking to the media, the MLA said the pond, spread across 2.25 acres, has been redeveloped to improve public health and provide a recreational hub for residents. “The pond has been desilted, embankments strengthened with stone lining, benches installed, and tree plantation carried out. A fountain and fish stocking will soon be added to transform it into a local tourist attraction,” he stated. He further announced that another pond in Sohana would also be renovated soon.

On the dharamshala project, Kulwant Singh said it would be constructed on 2 kanals of land, featuring a 2,000 sq. ft. hall to offer affordable space for families to host functions, replacing the old dilapidated structure.

During his visit, the MLA also interacted with residents who demanded better drinking water supply, sewerage solutions, road repairs, electricity strengthening, and Anganwadi school maintenance. He assured them that canal water supply for drinking will be started soon and urgent repair works expedited.

He emphasised that the Punjab government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to all-round development and communal harmony. He highlighted reforms in education, the setting up of Aam Aadmi Clinics, and free electricity supply as key welfare initiatives already benefitting people.

Several local residents, municipal officials, and community leaders attended the event.
