A five-year-old girl Kajal, who had gone missing from a park in Sector 34 on March 9,was recovered from Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, the girls father Sangram Singh,a labourer staying in Sector 34,had complained on March 12 that his daughter, who is unable to speak, had gone missing from the park in front of her house on March 9. Singh had told the police that he had searched everywhere but failed to trace her.
During police investigations,it was found that the girls mother Urmila suspected her ex-husband Chotte Lal,who had been calling her on her mobile phone. Based on her statement, the cops raided Lals village and found that Lal had not kidnapped the girl from Chandigarh.
Further investigation led the police to Umesh,a resident of Unao district,Uttar Pradesh. Umesh worked as a labourer with the girls parents and was last seen with her.
The police arrested Umesh from his village on March 27 and he disclosed that he had picked up Kajal from the park and took her to his village. He further disclosed that on the intervening night of March 10 and 11,he had stayed with her near a Hanuman Mandir in Unao after which he abandoned her there.
He told the cops that he had kidnapped the girl owing to enmity with her father. Based on his disclosure, she was recovered from the custody of Panne Lal,a tea vendor in Unao. He told the police that he had heard the girl crying near his shop and taken her custody on seeing her alone.
Meanwhile, the girl has been returned to her parents and a case has been registered against Umesh. He has been sent to two days police remand by a local court.
