Two groups in Patel Market in Sector 15 entered into a scuffle during an anti-encroachment drive by the Municipal Corporation. The incident took place at 5 pm.
Shopkeepers closed their shops for about half an hour. The Station House Officer (SHO),Inspector Gurmukh Singh of Police Station,Sector 11,detained some persons who were agitating in the market.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Central,Ashish Kapoor,said that a case was being registered by the police against those who created a ruckus in the market.
Ex-president of the market welfare association,Varinder Mahajan said,Rajeev and Sanjeev,owners of a shop,surrendered 40 pairs of goods to the MC. But the officials wanted to take the counter as well,which they opposed. The two brothers said that the enforcement wing should first take the counter of the present president of the market welfare association,Yashpal Aggarwal alias Bittu.
This triggered an argument between the two groups following which the shops were shut down for half an hour,slogans were raised and the police was called to control the situation. The brothers have been arrested by the police according to Mahajan and no action has been taken against Aggarwal and his allies.
