Mauli Jagran resident held for cheating

A Mauli Jagran resident was arrested for duping a Hallomajra resident of Rs 3,000 and jewellery in Chandigarh on Monday.

A Mauli Jagran resident was arrested for duping a Hallomajra resident of Rs 3,000 and jewellery in Chandigarh on Monday. The accused has been identified as Sohan Lal. According to the police,the accused went to victim Manju Soni house and introduced himself as a friend of her husband Pana Lal.

He told her that her husband had met with an accident near Poultry Farm Chowk. He was successful in convincing her and asked her to accompany him to the spot. He took her there on his scooter. On reaching the spot,he told Manju that PCR might have taken her husband to hospital and asked her if she was carrying money. When she denied,he told her to stay there so that he could bring money from his home.

Instead of going to his own house,the accused went to the victim’s house and told her children that their father had met with an accident and their mother has asked him to bring money. They handed him a box which contained Rs 3000 and jewellery.

After waiting for some time,the victim returned home and was shocked when she came to know the truth. The police were informed and the accused was arrested from near Sector 31. He will be produced in court tomorrow.

Four days after a group of robbers,decamped with jewellery and cash worth lakhs from a residence in Sector 10,the police are yet to trace the accused. As a result of this,the police have now roped in its counterparts from the UT and the neighbouring states.

Sources claim it to be a handiwork of a “notorious” gang which is operative in other states as well. “They seem to be thorough professionals,” said the police source. Based on the information the police had sent three parties to Delhi and surrounding areas on Saturday which are expected to arrive tomorrow. Sources further revealed that a team of UT police had also visited the Vij family on Sunday for inquiry.

In a bid to speed up the investigations,the police have now released sketches of the suspects who have been reportedly identified by the family. A senior official in the police rued that as the township is on the border of two states Punjab and HP,the criminals can easily escape after committing the crime.

In another incident on Friday,eight robbers including one women held a family of 13 as hostage and robbed the house of all the cash and jewellery.
