The Manimajra District Congress Committee Thursday held a massive protest and gherao of the Municipal Corporation’s office.

The protest was over long-pending civic issues — non-issuance of house NOCs, denial of permanent water connections without completion certificates, broken roads, contaminated water supply, and complete failure of the 24×7 water supply project.

The protest was led by president of the Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Committee Harmohinder Singh Lucky, Manimajra District Congress Committee president Surjit Dhillon, and Block Congress Committee president Sanjeev Gaba. A large number of Congress workers and local residents joined the demonstration, holding placards and raising slogans against the BJP government and the Municipal Corporation.

Among key issues highlighted were that NOC must be issued immediately — completion certificate should not be mandatory for old Manimajra locality.

Lucky stated that Manimajra is an old, well-established residential area where enforcing a completion certificate requirement is illogical and harmful to the public. Without NOCs, residents are unable to sell or purchase property, bringing local economic activity to a standstill.

After the protest, a delegation of Congress leaders submitted a detailed memorandum to Joint Commissioner Dr Inderjeet, demanding restoration of permanent water connections even without completion certificates, mandatory attendance of officials at the Manimajra sub-office at least four days a week.

Dr Inderjeet assured that prompt action will be taken and resolving residents’ grievances will be a priority.
