The most important lessons of life are often learnt in school. Ironically, many are forgotten. Perhaps, most of us read about the depleting ozone layer when we were in Class V,but do we care about it now as adults? So,we thought of teaching the lesson in a way that it stays with the children forever, says Gayatri Suri,a members of Eco & Agro Resource Management,a registered non-profit consortium,as she opened the play The Fuzzy Ozzy at St. Johns High School on Wednesday. Some 30 students of Class IX and X came on stage, each dressed in a way so as to portray a particular element of nature carbon dioxide, oxygen, phytoplanktons, algae, plants and earth.
Accompanied by a choir,it was the story of human beings carelessly cutting trees, polluting the environment and throwing away waste in water bodies. Also,it touched upon the ways in which all of us,at our own individual levels, can contribute to prevent the ozone layer from depleting further. We researched extensively on the subject and watched movies such as 2012 before finalising the script, said Rashi Sethi Gupta, who wrote the script and the songs, adding that the students took around 15 days to master the script. After St. Johns High School, the play will be showcased at other schools across the city, starting with Carmel Convent School next week.
